"To transform Kumbalam into a model green coastal rural-urban community in Kerala by preserving its traditional agriculture and fishing practices, protecting natural resources and biodiversity, and promoting sustainable tourism, modern infrastructure, social justice, and technological advancement."

Kumbalam Grama Panchayat is a region located adjacent to Kochi city, renowned for its Pokkali farming, fishing heritage, backwater culture, and natural beauty. The core objective of this vision is to pursue a holistic approach that balances development with environmental conservation. Its primary focus is to provide modern amenities and employment opportunities to the people while preserving the area's rich rural traditions and cultural heritage.

  • Protect Pokkali cultivation areas and the Vembanad/Kaithapuzha backwaters.
  • Transform Kumbalam into a waste-free and plastic-free Panchayat.
  • Restore and conserve water resources and wetlands.
  • Expand afforestation and greening initiatives to reduce carbon emissions.
  • Implement scientific strategies and projects to address climate change and strengthen climate resilience.

2. Agriculture and Fisheries Development

  • Support the revival, promotion, and marketing of Pokkali rice cultivation.
  • Enhance the livelihoods of fisherfolk by promoting modern aquaculture and value-added fish products.
  • Develop enterprises such as shrimp farming and cage fish farming.
  • Facilitate branding and marketing opportunities for agricultural and fishery products.
