Geographical Description of Kumbalam Grama Panchayat
Kumbalam Grama Panchayat is a coastal local self-government institution situated in the Kanayannur Taluk of Ernakulam District, Kerala. Spread across the picturesque shores of the Vembanad–Kaithapuzha backwaters, the Panchayat encompasses the areas of Kumbalam, Panangad, and the Cheppanam–Chathamma Islands. It possesses a unique geographical character where urban development and rural lifestyle coexist in harmony.
Due to its proximity to Kochi City, Kumbalam experiences the influence of urban growth while retaining its natural rural environment and ecological richness. To the west of Kumbalam Panchayat lie the coastal regions connected to the Arabian Sea, while to the east are the water bodies of the Vembanad Backwaters.
